journal game index now on neocities !

journal game index here - now with some separation between audience groups that is hopefully at least semi-useful . some games may be subject to re-categorise , but figure since 18+ games on table , might as well also get slightly more specific about others .

do note that general and mature still do not correspond to intent of design for kids and teens - only about whether games contain sexual themes or heavy emotional themes that require more caution and responsibility to roleplay . that just seem much more sensible in mind .

actually

neocities seem to allow pdf uploads . full archive of journal games would not be bad idea ... just in case something was to happen . might as well get on top of that and hope never necessary , rather than have to scramble when suddenly necessary .

itch policy ...

someone here come up with really fun kinky journal game idea , but worry very much that itch would take down and remove whole account if actually upload . not really sure about policy , or if policy actually mean jackshit anymore , because come across pretty tame things that end up taken down and nuke ... and while non-visual , this is definitely on not tame end of spectrum .

Breathe, My Friend!

Rogan: after that household respiratory sickness in November, running again was harder. I was still doing it, but normally my breath-cycle is two steps inhale, two steps exhale, and now it was three for each. It sure wasn’t because I’d gotten BETTER at running; I would wheeze like a busted accordion around the half mile mark, it’d last for an hour or two, and it sounded bad enough that my asthmatic roommate told me I needed to go to the doctor.

honestly

sometimes wish have more trust to say people can refer with she pronouns as well , but sort of problem of assumptions . like that someone would come across pronouns without context , and assume get to pick and choose which one feel " right " , and not that pronouns vary by kossai choice .

so never really do that . kind of derive euphoria from characters instead .

shezow's 13th anniversary !

december 15th , 2012 , mark first release of superhero cartoon shezow ...

this show overall was pretty silly - lots of stuff that can expect from any old kids' superhero fare but with silly gender-based twists , since main character is boy as hyperfeminine superhero .

but there was also episode ( link to tubi tv ) in which mother learn of son's identity as shezow , and feel so much pride and joy that want to reveal for sake of show pride , which would endanger - not only because secret identity is secret for reason , but particularly because father hate shezow .

show was not able to get all that deep into things , realistically - there was talk quite some time ago that even acceptance of identity as shezow was hard to get on air , let alone any kind of deeper thoughts and questions . but honestly still hold pretty fond place in memory , for nuggets like that .

so , happy anniversary , shezow !

if kossai could write novels ...

just think about how kossai would handle fae romance novel ...

would make as gay as possible . while human might be confuse and initially put off by this , of course , faerie would have no thoughts on this as strange . fae like what fae like , and fae do what fae do , regardless of human perceptions of right and wrong , normal and abnormal . and no 6 page monologues to come out .

never really fan of whole nobility thing . if did incorporate nobility , would be more for show , not legitimate social structure . fae just play pretend with these things sometimes - anyone can be prince or princess , duke or duchess , whatever . likewise , would write court dynamics as more personal reflection .

would incorporate personal biological cycles . acotar's " calanmai " thoroughly disappoint with how fucking straight this shit was , can do idea of faerie heat so much better from experience . not that heat cycle is inherent to faeries , and certainly not within folklore , but faerie sexuality can be very intense and hard to contain . still able to feel intensely at any time , but if most intense feelings bloom on predictable cycle , then become much easier to deal with than when entirely random .

not really keen on idea of one big evil faerie . would want conflicts to be more grounded and interpersonal as faerie struggle to understand how to woo human , and human struggle with navigate faerie realm . in other words , would basically play faerie thorns faerie roses :P

Automatons: More Othervague Thoughts

I am an antique among machines. At times, I am an automaton. At times, I’m not an automaton. In the moments when I’m not this kind of machine, I am but a fan admiring these creations from a distance. In contrast, I’m not passionate about the technology of this day and age. The same goes for the technology of the future, be it based in the aspirations of our current societies or in the imagination of storytellers and artists through science fiction. Whether it’s because of my familiarity with the former or my disinterest with the latter, my feelings towards either are neutral at best.

I look at the technology of the first and second Industrial Revolutions, and only then am I invested what is put before me. I love technologies of the past in general. The older, the better one might say. This is based on my curiosity regarding these creations’ utility, their evolution and significance to our world’s history, not on the basis of practicality. The astrolabe of the Hellenistic Period, Su Song's water-powered clock tower ("Cosmic Engine"), Munich's beautiful Rathaus-Glockenspiel… I love learning about devices such as these! With the exception of the latter's figurines, I look like none of them as an automaton. Regardless, they’re important to me not only as an alterhuman but from an animist standpoint as well.

In my opinion, there is life within these inventions. Anthropologically, they are the embodiment of innovation, the desire to create and reshape our society through said creations. There hasn’t been a moment in time where humans looked at something and didn’t go “I’m gonna fuck with this thing until I shift its whole purpose in my favor!”— sometimes for good reasons, sometimes absolutely terrible reasons. It is through humanity, its societies and those developments that life can be found in the machines representing them. No machine is perfect. A machine is bound to bug out or go through malfunctions (read as: make mistakes) through trial and error stages, and it can even cause irreversible damage like its creators. It is also capable of incredible feats and inspiring generations like its creators. That is life captured through artificial eyes. Alternatively, if you’re like me, one may sense life in every little piece before these projects are assembled. In a way, that life fully emerges once all the pieces fall into place and a model is completed.

another minor acotar whinge

like to joke that acotar would be better if tamlin and lucien could be gay , but know reality of this is , would still personally find unbearable to read , just would be gay instead . actually watch through some videos about later series entries , in which there is 1 singular bisexual woman who spend 6 pages to monologue entire history and sexuality , and then never appear again . pretty sure if SJM try to write gay or bisexual men , would fall into all of worst tropes and stereotypes .

of course , some fans pick up slack with gay art and fanfiction , but ... lots of this seem to be pre-story or extreme fixer-upper AUs , in which just make nearly everything up , because fundamentally incompatible with actual stories and various counts of character assassination , most notably tamlin's . at that point , personally feel like would not be worth effort to work with source material at all , and might as well just rip off favourite parts to make something new . not sure how feel about engage with fandom in which main appeal is to literally ignore all of source material . sure , there is some stuff that personally ignore or write over in elder scrolls character stories , but at least genuinely enjoy elder scrolls games and concepts as is .

Do I Know You?, by Omicron Seti III (filk folk song, 1979)

(words by Martha Bonds, music by Marcia McCombe)

Do I know you?
Are you dreaming of tomorrow?
If so, it seems you're a starchild, just like me.
The night's alive,
And we travel 'cross the light years,
TV screens and books of dreams can set us free.
Blurb: A fan (filk) song about how fans find meaning, joy, and other worlds through Star Trek.

Why is it worth your time?: It's an old fandom song about finding home and new worlds in the fictional. Definitely worth a listen to, for any fiction folk around!

and done with ACOTAR ...

that . was . that was something . keep most of rambles to access list currently , as not yet finish and did not want to make public judgments too early . but no longer is this shackle !

some of faerie topics which handle , actually think alright . bogge , suriel , and attor do not represent particular faeries of old lore , but feel like fit in decently . faerie music is written as suitably magical , able to make feyre feel wonderful , free , and ready to dance . faerie food ruin feyre's sense of taste for human food . even final quarter's trials , tasks , and riddles kind of impress .

unfortunately , some of these really nice moments come at cost of feyre's character image - this woman is meant to be capable hunter who feed whole family and know dangers of faerie menace , yet blatantly rush into dangerous faerie-based situations far more than actually listen to warnings

some parts amuse for entirely wrong reasons - that is to say , laugh at plenty of bad character choices , ridiculous interactions , and contradictions to faerie sensibilities . other parts annoy , because feel like author poorly set up - particularly in ways that take away agency and capability from feyre - or just get horny at worst moments like grief and moral quandary . pick literally any other time to get horny , pretty please ?

very glad that borrow this from library , rather than purchase . manage to satiate curiosity for this series , and safe to say will not continue .

Going Home, by Omicron Ceti III (Star Trek fan song, 1979)

(words by Martha Bonds, music by Kathy Burns)

I know a place so far away, a place I long to see,
There's no way to travel there, I must reach it in a dream,
The dreams they are so special, they take me there again,
A thousand conquered dangers, heroes, lovers, friends.

Kid Logic - Things that only made sense in single digits

Author: E, G
Length: 9-15 minutes
Warnings: Mentions of blood and sexuality

Things are still kind of in crisis mode (not helped by seasonal depression, we’re only realizing just as we started writing this on December 6…cool, fun stuff), and we’ve poked at the start of some essays and another comic about it. That’s all depressing though! How about something a little more fun?

Kid logic for us is when something made complete sense in single digits without the rationality and knowledge of an adult. Things like irrational, inexplicable fears, or leaps of logic that usually amounted to ‘because I said so’. (That kind of will may have been a factor in our system creation! Who knows!) It can be very funny to look back on, so why not do so as a bit of levity? G and E have a ton of memories to throw around (and they overlap because they were one back in the day).

We’ll go memory by memory, no particular order except whatever comes to mind first.

All memories below the cut! )

Rogan: It was a tie between "Old Man Yaoi" and "Cult Comix" this poll, but December is dark enough without cultery, so I exercised my blogly fiat. Besides, "Old Man Yaoi" has contextual relevance, because it's about Coming In or Staying Out, which is now officially up for sale in the violet and bubblegum pink Riso edition! $20, 24 pages, printing so pretty you'll want to rub it across your face!

The Guy in the Glass, by Dale Wimbrow (poem, 1934)

(Learned of this poem thanks to [profile] rybbot. Thanks, [profile] rybbot!)

For it isn't your Father, or Mother, or Wife,
Who judgement upon you must pass.
The feller whose verdict counts most in your life
Is the guy staring back from the glass.

Blurb: A poem about the importance of honesty and being able to make peace with yourself.

Why is it worth your time?: It's a good poem! Probably not intended to be plural, but hey, if it's about making friends with yourself, who's to say it ain't? It's free, online, and almost a hundred years old, what more could one want out of life?

Something—not a thought, but almost—flickered across her gray matter. The Smoulder, walking; looking at the faded wallpaper; feeling the flexion in her feet. And then it was a thought:

[This again?]

(Wait, were costumes supposed to remember—)
Blurb: In the future, sex worker Evie uses a technological 'costume' to help her with her job, and in particular a client of hers known as 'the company man'. But the costume has been starting to act strange recently...

Why is it worth your time?: It's good! I like how sex work is presented as just A Job in the story - not something uniquely awful but not exactly Great either. I also found the high-tech costumes to be an interesting piece of tech, and the story uses them very well
